Nyasha Nyamapfene


Nyasha has a Master of Public Policy (MPP) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago. In 2004, her alma mater was ranked by Business Week as the second best business school in the world. Nyasha is currently President of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business Black Alumni Association.

Nyasha earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Northeast Missouri State University. The school inducted her into the Student Hall of Fame and frequently calls upon her as a motivational and educational speaker. Nyasha has been a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since 1993 and is a past Chapter President.

Nyasha’s professional experiences span (chronologically) youth development, public policy, nonprofit, venture capital, and most recently, investment banking. During her time in investment banking, Nyasha worked for Banc One Capital Markets (now JPMorgan Chase) where she agented financings for large corporate clients and entrepreneurial companies. She also advised and authored marketing documents for entrepreneurs selling their companies. Past clients include McDonalds, Baxter Healthcare, Hallmark, and Porsche Financial Services-Great Britain. She has also raised money for Illinois Senator Barack Obama. Other organizations for which she has worked include Shorebank and the Wyman Center, St. Louis-based youth development organization. In 2004, Nyasha left investment banking to focus on her passions, which include writing, cross-cultural education and bridge-building.

Nyasha is a student of African and Caribbean folkloric dance. She has been a member of the London-based West African dance company, Frititi, and has also studied Cuban and Haitian folkloric dance with Cutumba, an acclaimed dance company based in Santiago de Cuba.

Nyasha has spoken to college audiences regarding black economic conditions. She has also been called upon to read her poetry publicly and has shared the stage with Sonia Sanchez and opened for AIDS activist/speaker, Rae Lewis Thornton. She has moderated panels on Capitol Hill and co-facilitated workshops on self-love to high school students. Since embarking on her current project, she has given three public talks relative to this topic at colleges and conferences.

Nyasha grew up in the United States, has lived in London and Central America, and her past travels include Cuba, Brazil, Egypt, the Caribbean, and continental Europe. Her primary residence is Chicago. Nyasha is a lover of people and lives her life as an adventure.
